Installation
SwingBeds highly recommends installation to be completed by a professional.
Ceiling joists that are at least 2x6 are recommended. The SwingBeds themselves are rated up to 800 pounds capacity, but be certain the structure can handle the amount of weight you plan to have on the SwingBed.
Mounting can be completed with a 4 or 8 point system. Below is a guide for our 8 point easy adjustable system.
- Measure distance between the rope holes on the SwingBed and determine where it will be mounted. Hooks must be installed in center of the ceiling joints or adequate blocking added between them.
- Pre-drill pilot holes into the center of the ceiling joist. These holes must be in the center of the joist. Use a drill bit smaller than the eye hook.
- Screw the hooks into the joist 1/2 inch past threads.
- Attach the SwingBed to the ropes by lowering through the SwingBed and eyebolt. Tie a knot at the estimated desired hanging height. The knot should be at least twice the size of the hole in the eye bolt.
- Set the SwingBed on blocks, chairs, ladder, or have a partner hold to make it easier.
- Hang chain through one end of the hook and thread through the braided loop of the rope. Hook other end or chain on hook.
- Repeat for all four ropes.
- Adjust knots under SwingBed to get near desired height.
- Test the SwingBed for strength and stability.
- Adjust chain links at the ceiling for fine tuning the level. Sit on one side of the SwingBed on a chair or have a partner hold it to make it easier.
- Rope will stretch over time. Chain link adjustment at the ceiling allows for an easier leveling.
- Test once a month for rope abrasions, bolts or nuts loosening and/or wood damage.
